HISTORY
He's an immortal Celestican. In his youth, he had a doting mother. He enjoyed theatre and history and trained as a warrior.
APPEARANCE
Volo is a very tall, pale young man, appearing to be in his mid-twenties. He stands at 6'3, towering over the people of Hisui, and is even taller than Rohan. His build is thin, but toned; he has wide shoulders and long legs with a very slim waist, but has a lot of lean muscle and is stronger than one may anticipate. Because he is intersex, Volo has both masculine and feminine sex characteristics, possessing breasts and a penis. Volo's arms and hands are notably scarred, and though he normally heals very quickly, these scars stubbornly remain due to frequent reopening by Volo's obsessive full-body shaving.
Volo's eyes are red in color and framed by long lashes. He has thin eyebrows and sharp facial features with a pout-shaped mouth. His hair is light blond and very long, often between shoulder and waist-length. It is unkempt and straight in texture, naturally covering one of his eyes. I like to make his hairstyle very pointy.
Volo's mother tongue is Greek, and he speaks Japanese (and English, in modern settings/AUs) with an accent. He refers to Rohan with Greek expressions and nicknames. Volo is very animated when he speaks, often emoting, raising his voice, and gesturing with his arms.
PERSONALITY
Volo is marked by his need for acknowledgement. He is highly manipulative; while it first served to ensure his survival in the early days of his banishment, it is now both functional and entertaining to him. Volo THINKS he doesn't let much of himself show, when in reality, he's quite emotional and obvious. He is quickly overwhelmed in social settings, especially in crowds, and often unnaturally removes himself from the company of others with excuses. Self-centered as a result of his trauma and isolation, love is not a feeling he understands and he struggles to empathize with others. The closest Volo gets to love is respect. That being said, he craves connection, and part of the reason he feels he must stay away from others is that he has a gnawing urge to divulge his trauma to someone in hopes that he’ll be understood and acknowledged.
Manipulation and trickery is a key element, if not THE key element, of the way Volo interacts with others. He is not bound by societal norms and when he uses others, it's so obvious that it's almost funny.
